Generals 37-point second quarter too much for Wildcats to overcome

LOGAN Using a second quarter scoring barrage, Class AA co-No. 9 Winfield exploded in the second quarter to hand Logan its second consecutive loss and its third loss out of four games to start the season.


Winfield (4-1) led 3-0 after one quarter following an Aiden Hernandez 24-yard field goal before erupting for 37 second quarter points on its way to a 53-0 win over the Wildcats last Friday night at Willis-Nisbet Stadium.


Jayce Miller scored on runs of 5 and 7 yards, Hernandez added a 44-yard interception for a score, K-juan Pearson had an 8-yard run and Easton Pinkerton scored on a 28-yard in the Generals 37-point second quarter.


Winfield added a 23-yard touchdown pass from Pinkerton to Matthew Daly and a Gannon Boggs 8-yard run in the third quarter for the final touchdowns on the night.


Pinkerton rushed for 103 on 10 carries and one touchdown and completed 4 of 12 passes for 68 yards and one touchdown.


Pearson carried the ball eight times for 57 yards and one touchdown while Miller rushed for 53 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown and Gannon Boggs ran for 66 yards on five carries with one touchdown.


Daly caught two passes for 46 yards and one touchdown for Winfield.


Logan could only manage 37 yards of total offense on the evening as the Generals held the Wildcats to minus-19 yards rushing and just two first downs.


Adam Baisden completed 8 of 21 passes for 56 yards and was intercepted twice. Chance Lewis had two yards rushing on two carries and Gage Green had one reception for 36 yards for the Wildcats.
