Governor Morrisey announces over $2.1 million in grants to state Child Advocacy Centers

More than $2.1 million in Child Advocacy Center grants have been awarded statewide, including more than $88,500 to the Logan County Child Advocacy Center and nearly $86,500 to Cornerstone Family Interventions.

CHARLESTON More than $2.1 million in Child Advocacy Center grants has been awarded to projects serving children and families across West Virginia.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey’s office announced Friday that $2,128,850.88 was awarded to more than 20 projects. The funding is intended to strengthen the state’s response to child abuse and neglect and support services for child victims.

The Logan County Child Advocacy Center received more than $88,500. That funding supports a safe, child-friendly location for investigating crimes against children in Logan and Mingo counties, along with supportive services for victims. Meanwhile, Cornerstone Family Interventions received nearly $86,500 for direct services to child victims in Boone and Lincoln counties.

In the Charleston-Huntington area, more than $96,500 was awarded to Cabell Huntington Hospital for the Child Advocacy Center at Hoops Family Children’s Hospital. Charleston Area Medical Center received nearly $126,000 to continue funding for its Women and Children’s Child Advocacy Center. That center provides forensic interviews, medical evaluations, advocacy and therapy for children and families affected by abuse in Kanawha, Putnam, Jackson and Roane counties.

The Nicholas County Family Resource Network received more than $87,500 for a child-friendly environment supporting multidisciplinary investigations involving children who have experienced physical or sexual abuse in Nicholas and Webster counties.

North Star Child Advocacy Center received more than $134,000 to provide a neutral setting where law enforcement and Child Protective Services can observe forensic interviews of alleged child victims. The center serves Wood, Wirt, Ritchie, Pleasants and Calhoun counties.

West Virginia Child Abuse Network received more than $133,000 to support programs serving children affected by abuse across the state.

The remaining funding was divided among 15 additional child advocacy centers and projects serving nearly 30 other counties.
