A new WIC clinic in Logan will hold its public grand opening this week.

The new Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinic is located at 103 George Kostas Drive in Logan.

LOGAN The Women, Infants and Children clinic is located at 103 George Kostas Drive. The facility opens on Wednesday and will be operated by the West Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Nutrition Services, part of the Bureau for Public Health.


The area’s longtime WIC office was formerly located in the Aracoma area.

Wednesday’s grand opening will run from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to tour the new facility, meet staff and learn more about the WIC program.

West Virginia Health Secretary Dr. Arvin Singh says the new location increases the department’s capacity to serve women, infants and children in the region.


Office of Nutrition Services Director Ashley Puffenbarger, meanwhile, says the goal is to provide a welcoming and accessible location for families.

WIC is a federally funded program for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk. Services at the Logan location include supplemental foods, nutritional guidance, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and peer counseling. The program also provides referrals to other health and social services in the community.
