BUFFALO Man High School senior running back ran for 202 yards on nine carries and scored four touchdowns as the Class A No. 9 Hillbillies defeated the Buffalo Bison 49-28 Friday night at Buffalo Stadium.

Green scored on runs of 60, 28, 28 and 57 and was one of four Hillbillies to rush for 60-plus yards as Man rushed for 451 yards and piled up 490 yards of total offense in the victory.

Dusten Baisden ran for 108 yards on 11 carries and scored one touchdown while Jordan Adams had 62 yards on nine carries and quarterback Jayden Brumfield had three carries for 60 yards and scored on runs of 41 and 11 for the Hillbillies.

Buffalo surprised Man with an onside kick that was recovered by Evan Smalley at the Hillbilly 26 to start the game. Five plays later Bradley Harris ran in for a 1-yard touchdown and Chris Williams hauled in a pass from Josh Moody for a successful two-point conversion to give the Bison an 8-0 lead with 10:22 to play in the first quarter.

It didn’t take Green and the Hillbillies long to respond as the senior running back scored from 60-yards out just 0:15 later as Jaxon Tipton kicked the first of his seven extra points to draw Man within one, 8-7, with 10:07 to play in the opening quarter.

For Green, the 60-yard run was the first of three first half touchdowns.

Harris scored from 1-yard out with 4:38 to play in the opening quarter and Moody found Wyatt Cobb on the two-point conversion for a 16-7 lead.

It would be the last lead for the Bison as Man scored the remaining 21 points of the first half. Green’s second touchdown, a 28-yard run, bought the Hillbillies to within two, 16-14 following Tipton’s extra point with 2:12 remaining in the first.

The Hillbillies forced a Bison punt on their next possession, but Buffalo held a 16-14 lead after one quarter of play.

Man went ahead for good with 10:51 to play before halftime as Brumfield scored on a 41-yard run and Tipton kicked the extra point for a 21-16 lead.

Green scored on a 28-yard run with 4:24 to play in the second quarter to give Man a 28-16 lead.

Green wasn’t done in the first half as he intercepted a Moody pass before halftime and returned it 42 yards, however, on the next play Brumfield was intercepted by Harris as the first half ended with Man ahead 28-16.

The Bison trimmed Man’s lead to 28-22 as Cobb hauled in a 41-yard touchdown reception from Moody with 9:17 to play in the third quarter.

Man answered immediately as the Hillbillies drove 61 yards in five plays to take a 35-22 lead on Brumfield’s 11-yard run with 6:36 remaining in the quarter.

Buffalo went three-and-out on its next possession and was forced to punt. Brumfield returned Cobb’s punt 32 yards to the Bison 34.

Man appeared poised to put the game away with a score, however, Harris intercepted Brumfield at the Bison 1 and returned the interception 99 yards for his third touchdown of the game cutting the Bison deficit to seven, 35-28.

Green’s fourth touchdown, a 57-yard run with 9:14 to play in the fourth quarter put the Hillbillies up 42-28 after Tipton’s sixth extra point.

Baisden scored from 3-yards out with 6:00 remaining and Tipton tacked on a seventh extra point to give Man a 49-28 lead.

An eighth Hillbilly touchdown, a 72-yard interception return by Brumfield, was nullified due to a holding penalty at the Bison 35.

Harris ran for 51 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns for Buffalo while Moody completed 22 of his 39 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown. Cobb hauled in eight receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown.

Brumfield, Green and Chris Isaacs each had one interception on defense for the Hillbillies.

Buffalo falls to 1-4 on the year and will host Tyler Consolidated Friday night at Buffalo Stadium.

Man, winners of five straight, improved to 5-1 and will travel to Shady Spring Friday night in search of a sixth consecutive win.
