Harts Man Leads Police On Chase, Runs Out Of Gas

A Lincoln County man sent police on a pursuit through two counties overnight into Wednesday early morning.


Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 33-year-old Bradley Owen Ellis, of Harts, for fleeing police and leading a police chase that ended in Boone County.


According to Kanawha County Deputies, Ellis was initially stopped at Campbells Creek. The vehicle abruptly left while a deputy was approaching to speak with the occupants.


Ellis reportedly entered I-64 toward Charleston traveling at high rates of speed and illegally passing on the shoulders of the highway.


The stopped at two gas stations while fleeing police. Both times the stops were to let occupants out of the car. One stop a person was only partially out when Ellis sped off and retaining the occupant in the car. The second stop two females exited.


The speeding vehicle stuck a Charleston Police cruiser but continued without stopping.

The chase ended after the vehicle entered Boone County and ran out of gas on US 119.


Ellis was charged in Boone County Magistrate Court for fleeing with reckless indifference, fleeing while driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license for third offense DUI and DUI.


Additional charges may be filed by Charleston PD relating to the crash involving a cruiser.

No injuries were reported.
