ELKVIEW Dane Hatfield ran for five touchdowns in the first half and Blake Fisher rushed for three first half touchdowns to lead Class AA No. 9 Herbert Hoover to a 70-20 victory over Logan Friday night at Husky Stadium.
Hatfield ran for 142 yards on seven carries and scored on runs of 27, 2, 8, 94 and 1 yard while Fisher added 131 yards on seven carries and touchdowns of 1, 51, and 40 yards as the Huskies built a 57-20 halftime lead.
K’dan Hughes rushed for 96 yards on seven carries as Herbert Hoover rushed for 408 yards in the win.
Logan nearly matched Herbert Hoover, touchdown for touchdown in the first quarter, but trailed 29-20 after one period of play.
Adam Baisden completed 10 of 13 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns in the opening quarter for the Wildcats.
Four plays after recovering a fumble on the opening kickoff, Fisher ran in from 1-yard out to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead with 11:39 to play.
Baisden hooked up with Rylee Jones for a 30-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 7-6 with 9:21 to play. Herbert Hoover quickly answered Logan’s score with a 51-yard run from Fisher to take a 14-6 lead with 8:42 remaining.
Logan tied it at 14 when Baisden and Julius Clancy hooked up for a 74-yard touchdown and Jones hauled in a pass from Baisden for a successful two-point conversion.
The Huskies extended their lead to 29-14 with a pair of Hatfield touchdown runs, 27 and 2 yards, before Logan answered right back when Caden Justice and Baisden hooked up for a 32-yard touchdown with 2:49 to play in the opening quarter.
Hatfield ran in from 8-yards with 0:40 remaining to give Herbert Hoover a 29-20 first quarter lead.
Logan threatened in the second quarter, however, Hatfield intercepted Baisden at the Husky 6 and on the next play raced 94 yards to the endzone for his fourth touchdown to extend the lead to 36-20 with 6:53 to play in the first half.
Fisher scored from 40 yards on Hoover’s next possession with 5:44 to play and Hatfield’s fifth touchdown, a 1-yard run, with 1:03 to play gave the Huskies a 57-20 lead.
Herbert Hoover got a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter beginning with Jaylen Symns 73-yard kickoff return to start the second half and Joey White’s 5-yard run with 2:00 to play in the third quarter.
Hatfield completed 6 of 8 passes for 58 yards. Bryce Grimm caught two passes for 26 yards and Symns had two receptions for 25 yards for Herbert Hoover.
Baisden completed 12 of his 23 passes for 243 yards, three touchdowns and was intercepted twice. Clancy had four catches for 137 yards, Justice caught four passes for 57 yards and Jones had three receptions for 46 yards.
Herbert Hoover enters the postseason with a 7-3 record. The Huskies will be the ninth seed and face No. 8 East Fairmont in the first round of the Class AA playoffs.
Logan lost eight straight games to closeout the season and end the year with a 1-9 record.
