Hillbillies bounce back with a 39-7 win over Golden Knights

MAN Coming off a season-opening loss to county rival Logan, Man bounced back in a big way leading from start to finish on its way to a dominating 39-7 victory over McDowell County rival Mount View Friday night at George A. Queen Memorial Field.


The Hillbillies (1-1) piled up 385 yards of offense in the win. Running back Jordan Adams rushed for 119 yards on nine carries and scored on runs of 4 and 29 yards while Jim Green ran for 57 yards on eight attempts and Dusten Baisden carried the ball 11 time for 44 yards. Quarterback Jayden Brumfield was 3 for 6 passing for 76 yards and one touchdown and added two touchdowns on the ground for Man.


Man, who lost to Logan 20-7 in its season opener, jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first half thanks to an Adams 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter and Brumfield 12-yard touchdown in the second quarter.


Mount View got a 67-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Long to Jaylen Hall with 8:46 remaining in the first quarter to trim the deficit to 13-7, but that would as close as the Golden Knights would get.


Brumfield hooked up with Chris Isaacs for a 43-yard touchdown with 2:34 to play in the first half as Jaxon Tipton’s extra point gave the Hillbillies a 20-7 lead.


Mount View received the kickoff to start the second half, however, on the Golden Knights first play from scrimmage Jim Green stripped Jaron Hale after a 9-yard gain and Kaleb Mullins scooped it up for a 38-yard touchdown with 11:40 to play in the third quarter.


It was the second defensive touchdown for the Hillbillies, who got an interception return for touchdown in the season-opening loss to Logan.


Man would add two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. Adams started the scoring in the fourth with a 29-yard touchdown to give Man a 32-7 advantage with 9:24 to play.


Brumfield capped the scoring with a 15-yard run with 5:44 to play giving Man a 39-7 lead.


Long completed 19 of 34 passes for 183 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the Golden Knights. Hall caught six passes for 95 yards, Hale had six receptions for 31 yards and Johnathan Huff caught four balls for 48 yards.


Isaacs had three catches for 76 yards while Adams had an interception for the Hillbillies.

Mount View returns to action Friday night in its home opener against Buffalo.
