PARKERSBURG Man High School moved up to second on Tuesday in the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission Class A playoff ratings after a 22-20 victory over Class AA Shady Spring and county rival Chapmanville dropped to No. 17 following a bye week.
The top schools in Class AAA and Class AA remained the same. Cabell Midland continues to hold on to the top spot in Class AAA but share the spot with Cabell County rival and reigning Class AAA champion Huntington. Roane County was idle last week and remained atop the Class AA rankings for a second consecutive week.
Following its win over Class A No. 14 Moorefield, Tucker County jumped two spots and took over first place in West Virginia's small school division following then No. 1 James Monroe's 25-8 loss to Greenbrier West.
Man, who was ranked No. 1 in the initial Class A rankings heading into the fourth week, jumped two spots and is slightly ahead of reigning Class A champion Williamstown with Greenbrier West fourth and James Monroe fifth.
Wahama is sixth, Montcalm seventh, Tug Valley eighth, St. Marys ninth and Tyler Consolidated is ranked 10th.
Cameron checks at No. 11 with East Hardy 12th, Doddridge County 13th, Midland Trail 14th, Summers County 15th and Paden City currently occupying the 16th and final playoff spot with four weeks left to play in the regular season.
Gilmer County is 17th, Madonna 18th, Moorefield 19th and Petersburg 20th.
North Marion is second, Scott ranks third with Fairmont Senior fourth and Mingo Central fifth. Winfield is sixth, Weir seventh, Philip Barbour eighth, Herbert Hoover ninth and East Fairmont 10th.
Lewis County headlines the second 10 and is ranked 11th in this week's rankings followed by Frankfort 12th, Keyser 13th, Clay County 14th, Liberty (Harrison) 15th and Lincoln 16th. Chapmanville is 17th, Nitro 18th, Bluefield 19th and Independence 20th.
In Class AAA, the Mountain State Athletic Conference holds down the top three spots with Cabell Midland and Huntington sharing the top spot and Hurricane third. Morgantown is fourth and Martinsburg rounds out the top five in West Virginia's big school division.
Bridgeport and Spring Mills are tied for sixth, Princeton is eighth, Jefferson ninth and Parkersburg South rounding out the top 10.
Oak Hill is 11th followed by George Washington at No. 12, Parkersburg is 13th, Woodrow Wilson is 14th, Wheeling Park 15th and Brooke occupying the final Class AAA playoff spot.
Musselman is 17th, University 18th and Capital and Spring Valley tied for 19th.
