Hillbillies Win 14th Straight Defeat Class AAAA Hurricane 78-61

MAN, WVa Aden Martin led four Hillbillies in double figures with 24 points, while Jeremiah Harless added 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead Class A No. 2 Man to a 78-61 victory over Class AAAA Hurricane Tuesday night at Man Memorial Fieldhouse.

Martin shot 9 of 12 from the floor and connected on 2 of 3 shots from 3-point distance to lead the Hillbillies in scoring, while Harless posted his 13th straight double-double of the season. Trey Brown and Caleb Blevins each finished with 11 points while Jordan Adams added a game-high nine assists.

Man shot 75% in the first quarter jumping out to a 32-11 after one quarter. The Hillbillies made 12-of-16 shots from the field and connected on 6 of 8 3-pointers in the opening frame.

Man led by as many as 27 points in the first half and was 18 of 28 (64.3%) from the field in the first half and connected on 8 of 13 (61.5%) from beyond the arc to take a 48-24 halftime lead.

Hurricane would cut the Man lead to 13 on multiple occasions in the second half but could get no closer than 11 points, 68-57, on Jackson Clark’s three-foot jumper off the glass with 1:37 remaining.

Man knocked down 8 of 8 free throw attempts in the final 1:37 to clinch the victory. As a team, Man was 19 of 27 from the charity stripe with Harless knocking down 11 of his 13 attempts.

Hurricane (4-17) was led by Clark with a game-high 25 points. Nas’jaih Jones had 21 points for the Redskins, who made 25 of 62 (40.3%) field goals and was 3 of 15 (20%) from 3-point range while making 8 of its 14 (57.1%) free throw attempts.

Man knocked down 25 of its 48 field goal attempts and was 9 of 21 from beyond the arc. The Hillbillies shot 52.1% for the contest.

Man, who has won 14 consecutive games, won for the 18th time this tying the school record for wins in season, which was set during the 2019-20 season. The Hillbillies have now won 15 or more games for the third consecutive season and improved to 9-0 at home with the victory.

Man has won its last 15 games at home and has won 23 of its last 26 at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse. The Hillbillies last loss at home was during the Feb. 21, 2020, when Huntington St. Joe’s defeated Man 62-53.

Hurricane will host Putnam County rival Winfield on Friday while Man closes out the regular season Wednesday night at Liberty (Raleigh).
