LHS girls win state tennis championship

Logan High School captured its first-ever girls tennis state championship with a 4-2 victory over Charleston Catholic High School in the Class A/AA WVSSAC title match on May 15.
Logan High School captured its first-ever girls tennis state championship with a 4-2 victory over Charleston Catholic High School in the Class A/AA WVSSAC title match on May 15.

LOGAN Logan High School’s girls tennis team defeated Charleston Catholic 4-2 in the Class A/AA West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission Tennis State Championship at the Kanawha City Courts on Friday, May 15th, to bring home the first girls state title in program history.


The girls’ squad has earned back-to-back Class A/AA Region 4 titlesand served as the state runner-up last year after falling 4-3 to Williamstown in the state final.


In addition to the team victory, Shelby Mullins and Jada Adkins also bested Williamstown’s Addison and Peyton Woodburn 6-4 and 6-3, securing back-to-back doubles state championships for the duo.


Adkins was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts in the tournament, making the third All-Tournament placement for the senior.

The team and Coach Justin Turner will be guests this Friday (5/22/26) in the Becker Studio of WVOW for a special edition of Logan Regional Medical Center and You. The show is this Friday at 10 a.m. following "What's Your Opinion."
