Johnson tosses two-hitter,Logan Senior League defeats Tennessee, 2-1, to advance in Southeast Regional

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. And then there were three.
Mia Johnson pitched a two-hitter for her second win of the afternoon, and was
six outs away from throwing a no hitter to lead the Logan Senior League All
Stars to a 2-1 victory over the host St. Bethlehem (Tennessee) Senior League
in an elimination contest of Senior League Softball Southeast Regional
Sunday afternoon at Civitan Park.
Johnson struck out five, walked one and allowed one earned run as Logan,
one of three teams remaining, advanced to face Hart County (Georgia) Senior
League at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Irmo (South Carolina) Senior League defeated Hart County, 11-2, Sunday
afternoon. With the win, Irmo moves into Monday’s Southeast Regional Final
at 2:00 p.m. against the Hart County-Logan winner.
Mekhayia Tusie singled to center field on an 0-2 pitch for St. Bethlehelm’s first
hit and came around to score on Amelia Eszlinger’s base hit to center to cut
Logan’s lead to 2-1.
Johnson retired the first nine batters in order before issuing a walk to Cydnee
Pringle to start the St. Bethlehelm fourth inning.
Zoe Chaney provided Johnson with all the run support she would need with a
pair of sacrifice flies in the first and third inning.
Avah Sams was solid in the circle for St. Bethlehelm, Sams permitted two
runs on five hits and three strikeouts in six innings.
Lilly Fleming led off the bottom of first for Logan with a bunt single, stole
second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came around to score on
Chaney’s sacrifice fly to right field.
In the third inning, Fleming reached on an error and moved to third on Miley
Fleming’s single and came around to score on Chaney’s second sacrifice fly
to right.
Myah Kirkendall had two hits including a double and Lilly Fleming, Miley
Fleming and Johnson each had one hit for Logan.
Tournament play wraps up Monday with the championship of the Southeast
Regional. Logan, needing to win two games, can punch its ticket to the Senior
League Softball World Series in Sussex County, Delaware with wins over Hart
County and Irmo on Monday.
