Justice Calls 2nd Special Session

Governor Jim Justice called another special session of the West Virginia legislature Thursday.

During his conference on COVID response, Governor Justice announced he is calling back lawmakers to Charleston for a special session to appropriate $250 million in revenue surplus funding before the end of the fiscal year on June thirtieth.

According to the state code, half of any budget surplus must be deposited into the Rainy Day Fund at the beginning of a new fiscal year. Justice said the Rainy Day Fund is currently at record levels

The session is set for Thursday next week and an official agenda and list of items for approval will be released Friday.

This is the second special session the governor has called since the legislature’s regular session ended in the spring. Lawmakers were summoned last week to approve $150 million to fund 400 road projects in every county
