WARNER ROBINS, GEORGIA Logan Little League gave Emma Lackey more than enough run support Tuesday evening as they fought off elimination in the Little League Softball Southeast Regional at Little League Southeast Park.
Logan plated six runs in the first inning, taking advantage of four Trenholm (SC) errors. The six runs were more than enough for Lackey, who tossed a four-inning no-hitter in Logan’s 11-1 mercy rule-shortened game.
Lackey walked two, struck out seven in four innings and was 2-for-2 at the plate with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI.
Lackey set Trenholm down in order in the bottom of the first. Darielle Peay led off the bottom of the second reaching base via walk but was left stranded at second base as Lackey retired the next three hitters in the lineup.
Lucy Hoppmann drew a walk to start the bottom of the Trenholm. Hoppmann moved to second on a passed ball and stole third before coming around to score on Lucy Zug’s groundout for South Carolina’s only run.
Lackey struck out the first hitters in the bottom of the fourth and finished the no-hitter by getting Kayleigh Moore to ground out to second baseman Zoe Chaney to complete the no-no.
Chaney also had a productive day at the plate for Logan, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles, two RBIs and two runs scored while Mollie Barnette was 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Barnette, Chaney and Lackey combined to go 6-for-6 with two doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored for the Logan Little League Softball All-stars.
One day after giving up three runs in the fifth inning of a 3-1 loss to Unicoi County (TN), Logan wasted no time in getting in on the board as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one inning.
Four of the six runs were unearned as Trenholm committed four first inning errors and fell behind after one inning for the second consecutive contest.
Ayla Vance got the scoring started for Logan when she grounded out to third base to score Lilly Fleming with the first run. Lackey followed with an RBI double to score Miley Fleming, who reached on a drop fly ball by the center fielder, to run Logan’s lead to 2-0.
Chaney singled to score Lackey with the third run and Katie Hall scored on an error by the third basemen for a 4-0 lead. Chaney and Kristi Dress each scored on an error to complete the six-run first inning.
Logan added to its lead in the second inning when Addison Starr tripled to start the frame and came around to score on a dropped third strike to give Logan a 7-0 lead.
In the top of the third, Lackey doubled, stole third and came around to score on a passed ball after Hall struck out.
Hall, who reached base safely following the dropped third strike, came around to score on Addie Dotson’s double to increase the lead to 9-0.
Dotson then scored on Chaney’s single and Barnette’s two-out single scored Chaney to put Logan ahead 11-0 heading to the bottom of the third.
Dotson finished 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI, Starr was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored while Hall went 1-for-2 and scored twice for Logan.
Miller and Vance each had one RBI, Lilly Fleming crossed the plate twice while Dress and Miley Fleming each crossed the plate once in the win.
Katherine Goff pitched four innings allowing 11 runs – only four earned – on nine hits, five strikeouts and two walks for Trenholm, who was eliminated from regional play with the loss.
Logan plays Warner Robins (GA), which lost its regional opener 10-2 to Pitt County (NC) Tuesday morning, at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
