Lady Generals use big fourth inning to defeat Lady Wildcats

WINFIELD Winfield used a nine run fourth inning to defeat Logan 9-1 in five innings Friday evening at Winfield High School.


The Lady Generals, held hitless through three innings, broke through for nine runs on 10 hits against Logan starter Chloe Bryant. During the nine-run outburst, Lola Barber had a two-run home run and a run scoring double while Kennedy Dean had a three-run single, and Maci Boggess had a pair of run-scoring doubles and Ella Nelson a run-scoring single.


Bryant suffered the loss after allowing nine runs on 10 hits in four innings. She struck out one and hit one in the circle for Logan.


Boggess allowed one run on four hits while striking out four and walking one in the circle to earn the win for Winfield.


Baber, Boggess and Dean each had two hits for Winfield. Baber was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double and three RBIs. Dean was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Boggess was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.


Ella Nelson had one hit and one RBI while Kristen Hensley, Alex Hurley and Georgia Moulder had one hit each for Winfield.


Taylor Noe had a run scoring double in the fifth to score Emma Elkins with Logan’s lone run.


Noe finished 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Elkins was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Bryant went 1-for-2 for the Lady Wildcats.


Winfield finishes the regular season with a record of 17-6. The Lady Generals earned the number three seed in the Class AA Region 4 Section 1 tournament and will open tournament play Wednesday at second seed Sissonville.


Logan finishes the regular season with a record of 11-14. The Lady Wildcats are the third seed in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament and will open tournament play Monday evening at Lick Creek Park in Danville against second seed Chapmanville.
