Lady Hillbillies close regular with road shutout of Lady Miners, 6-0

NEWTOWN Man closed out the regular season with a 6-0 road shutout over Mingo Central Saturday afternoon.


Morgan Cooper struck out 16 and allowed just two hits and Trista Marcum had two hits to go along with two RBIs.


Cooper had two hits including a triple and drove in one run while McKinlee Cline had two hits and one RBI and Olivia Ramsey added an RBI for Man.


Jacklynn Barnett, Kaylee Hicks and Ashlee Tomblin each had one hit for the Lady Hillbillies.


Man got on the board in the first inning when Cooper led off with a single and scored when Cline reached safely on an error to give Man a 1-0 lead.


The game would remain that way until the Lady Hillbillies plated three runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead.


Marcum started the three-run scoring output with a two-run single to score Cline and Tomblin and Ramsey followed Marcum’s single with a sacrifice fly to score Barnett giving Man a 4-0 advantage after three innings.


The Lady Hillbillies tacked on two more runs in the sixth as Cooper’s triple allowed Hicks to score from first base for a 5-0 lead. Cooper then scored on Cline’s sacrifice bunt giving Man a 6-0 lead.


Ava Williams suffered the loss in the circle for Mingo Central after allowing six runs on nine hits in seven innings. Williams struck out four and walked one in the defeat.


Mack Hammond and Kara Hunt each had one hit for the Lady Miners.
