Lady Hillbillies Cooper named First-Team Class A All-State, Muncy, Tomblin Second-Team

MAN Six Man High School Lady Hillbillies have been named Class A All-State by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.


Junior pitcher Morgan Cooper, who was as dominating in the circle as any pitcher in Class A this season, was named to the first team.


Cooper, who is a repeat first-teamer, went 13-6 in the circle with a 0.66 ERA for the Lady Hillbillies this season. She struck out 253 batters and walked only 27 in 117 innings pitched this season.


Cooper tossed a perfect game striking out 15 against Westside on March 29, tossed a no hitter in the Lady Hillbillies sectional opener against Tolsia on May 2, tossed five one-hitters and three two-hitters this season.


At the plate, Cooper hit .415 with four doubles, two triples, three home runs and drove in 11 runs as the Lady Hillbillies leadoff hitter this season.


Senior third baseman Ashlee Tomblin and senior outfielder Baylee Muncy were named to the Class A second team. Tomblin hit .233 this season with three doubles and 10 RBIs while Muncy hit. 294 with four doubles and 10 RBIs for the Lady Hillbillies.


Sophomore second baseman McKinlee Cline, senior shortstop Kiersten Ellis and senior outfielder Olivia Ramsey garnered All-State honorable mention.


Cline hit .291 this season with two doubles, a triple and eight RBIs while Ellis hit .333 with a pair of doubles to go along with a triple and eight RBIs. Ramsey batted .286 with nine RBIs for the Lady Hillbillies.


Man finished 13-6 and won the Class A Region 4 Section 1 championship for a second consecutive season defeating Sherman 3-2 in a decisive third game.


Man was eliminated in the Class A Region 4 championship by eventual Class A champion Wahama. The Lady White Falcons defeated the Lady Hillbillies 2-0 and 3-1 on its way to a second consecutive Class A state championship.
