CHARLESTON In cheerleading, one wrong slip or tumble can end hopes of a state championship.
Logan High School found that out Wednesday morning as the Wildcats cheer squad dropped a stunt and failed to get stunt up, but despite the two mishaps, the blue and gold brought home a third-place finish in the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission State Cheerleading Championship at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center.
The Wildcats, last year’s Class AA state champion, finished the competition with a score of 87.40.
Class AA Region 3 champion Westside High School won its first state cheer championship edging out runner-up and Class AA Region 2 champion Lincoln in the closest competition of the day.
The Renegades scored an 89.20 while Lincoln finished with an 89.10.
Not only was it the first state championship for Westside, but it was also the first ever cheer state championship for any Wyoming County school.
Scott finished fourth and Braxton County was fifth while Mingo Central was sixth, Doddridge County seventh and Tyler Consolidated eighth.
