MAN The Man Lady Hillbillies won their first game in nearly three years on Monday night defeating Independence 72-51 at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.
Man, who didn’t field a team in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic and once again failed to field a team last season due to a lack of players, won for the first time since defeating Sherman, 48-38, on Feb. 19, 2020.
The win against Independence also marks the first win over a Class AA team for the Lady Hillbillies since Feb. 12, 2018, when they defeated Scott 51-44.
Kami Anderson led four Lady Hillbillies in double figures with 24 points. Tori Honaker had 15 points while Jenna Baisden had 11 and Braylee Thompson 10 points for Man (1-2).
Man led 14-9 after one quarter and outscored the Lady Patriots 24-13 in the second quarter to extend its lead to 16 points, 38-22, at halftime.
Man put the game away in the third quarter outscoring Independence 18-7 to take a 27-point lead, 56-29, into the fourth quarter.
Harmony Mills led Independence (3-3) with 34 points. No other Independence player scored more than five points in the contest.
