BUFFALO A pair of three-run innings and another dominating pitching performance from Morgan Cooper propelled Man to a 6-2 victory over Buffalo (Putnam) in the Class A Region 4 Section 1 tournament.
Cooper, who threw a no-hitter in Man’s 17-0 opening round victory over Tolsia Monday, allowed one run on three hits striking out 16 and walking one.
At the plate, Cooper went 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored while Olivia Ramsey was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Kirsten Ellis and Ashlee Tomblin each went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Man scored three runs in the first and third innings and jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Buffalo plated a run in the fourth and fifth inning.
Man plated three runs in the first on four hits. Cooper led off the game with a double and came around to score on Tomblin’s double for a 1-0 lead.
Tomblin scored on a double by Jacklyn Barnett to make it 2-0 and Trista Marcum’s single scored Barnett to give the Lady Hillbillies a 3-0 lead.
In the third, the Lady Hillbillies took advantage of a pair of Lady Bison miscues as Barnett and Marcum both reached on errors to start the third.
Ellis’ double scored Barnett to increase the lead to 4-0 and Ramsey followed with a two-run single scoring Marcum and Ellis to give the Lady Hillbillies a 6-0 lead after three.
Kiera Cochran got the Lady Bison on the scoreboard in the fourth with a single scoring Breigh Martin and cutting the deficit to 6-1.
Buffalo added a single run in the fifth. Rachael Affotter was hit by a pitch to start the frame and scored on an error to bring the Lady Bison within four runs, 6-2.
The Lady Bison would get no close as Cooper set down nine of the final 10 hitters she faced.
Alex Hill suffered the loss for the Lady Bison in the circle after allowing six runs on 12 hits in seven innings. Hill struck out two and walked two.
Cochran had one hit and one RBI for Buffalo, who also a hit apiece from Kelsey Brock and Martin.
Barnett doubled and scored twice for Man. Marcum had one hit and one RBI and McKinlee Cline had one hit for the Lady Hillbillies.
