Lady Hillbillies falls to Lady White Falcons, eliminated in Class A Region 4 finals

MASON Reigning Class A champion Wahama defeated Man, 3-1 on Wednesday evening, to eliminate the Lady Hillbillies from postseason contention and capture the Class A Region 4 championship at Wahama High School.


The Lady White Falcons improve to 26-2 and advance to the Class A state tournament for a second consecutive year where they will face Class A Region 3 champion Midland Trail.


Mikie Lieving went the distance, allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven and walking one in seven innings for Wahama.


Man, who had lost the opener 2-0 on Tuesday evening, finishes the 2022 season with a 13-6 overall record. The Lady Hillbillies, who were no hit by Lieving in the Region 4 opener, got two hits from McKinlee Cline and one hit and one RBI from Tritsa Marcum and one hit from Olivia Ramsey.


In the circle, Morgan Cooper allowed three unearned runs on four hits while striking out 10 and walking three in six innings.


Wahama got on the board in first inning when Amber Wolfe scored on a error to give the Lady White Falcons an early 1-0 lead.


Wahama added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth. Wolfe had a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 and Lauren Noble had a solo home run for a 3-0 lead after five innings.


Man got on the board in the top of the sixth when Cooper scored on Marcum’s RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1.


Wahama’s quest for a second consecutive Class A championship begins Wednesday at Charleston’s Little Creek Park where the Lady White Falcons will face the Lady Patriots of Midland Trail. First pitch is scheduled 30 minutes after the completion of Petersburg and St. Marys. The Lady Vikings and Lady Blue Devils are scheduled for a 9:45 a.m. first pitch Wednesday morning.
