MAN Trista Marcum’s RBI double ignited a five-run second inning, and Morgan Cooper tossed a complete game one-hitter to lead Class A No. 9 Man won its sixth straight with a 6-0 victory over Class AA No. 2 Logan on Monday evening at Man High School.

Cooper struck out 12 and walked only two as Man snapped Logan’s seven-game winning streak and avoided a season sweep by its county rival. Logan had defeated Man 4-3 on March 28 at Logan’s Bea Orr Field and was looking to sweep the Lady Hillbillies for the first time since 2015.

Mattie Carroll led off the second inning with a single off the left center field fence. Two batters later, Peyton Lusk singled sending Carroll to third. Marcum followed with a double, scoring Carroll and moving Lusk to third to put Man out in front 1-0.

Zoey Jackson reached on a throwing error that allowed Marcum and Lusk to score giving Man a 3-0 lead. Kalilla Collins singled and Kylie Blevins followed with a two-run single to plate Jackson and Collins giving Man a five-run lead after two innings.

That proved to be plenty of run support for Cooper, who retired the first nine batters in the Logan lineup before issuing a leadoff walk to Myleigh Adkins in the fourth. Isabella Propst was able to leg out a bunt single with two outs in the fourth for the Lady Wildcats only hit.

Man added a run in the sixth when McKinlee Cline reached base safely on an error allowing Jackson to score for a 6-0 lead heading to the seventh inning.

Logan’s best scoring chances came in the fourth and sixth inning. In the fourth inning, Adkins drew a leadoff walk but was erased at second base on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Lacy Curry, Ashlin Brumfield reached on a third strike passed ball and Propst laid down a bunt single to load the bases with two outs, however, Cooper got Addison Brumfield to strike out swinging to end the fourth inning.

With two outs in the sixth inning, Ashlin Brumfield lifted a deep fly ball to center field that was caught by Marcum just in front of 198-foot sign in center field.

Propst was 1-for-3 with a single for Logan, who was shutout for the first time this season.

Logan starter Myleigh Adkins was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. Harlee Quick allowed one run on two hits, struck out four, walked one and hit one in 3 1/3 innings.

With her seven scoreless innings Monday evening, Cooper has yet to allow a run in her last 35 innings pitched and has struck out 74 while allowing just eight hits.

Logan (20-7) committed three errors Monday evening and will return to action Tuesday when they host Class AA No. 1 Winfield.

Lusk was 2-for-3 with one run while Blevins went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Marcum finished 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI for Man.

Carroll had one hit and one run while Cline and Collins each had one hit and Jackson two runs for the Lady Hillbillies.

Man (10-3) will travel to Wyoming East Tuesday evening.
