Lady Skyhawks defeat Lady Tigers to force winner-take-all sectional championship game

DANVILLE Dailan Adkins drove in four runs to lead Scott past Chapmanville, 13-5, in five innings Monday evening at Lick Creek Park forcing a winner-take-all showdown for the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 championship.


Scott, who lost to Chapmanville 6-4 in 12 innings on May 4, scored five runs in the second, one in the third, five more in the fourth and two in the fifth to set up Wednesday’s decisive game to determine who will represent section 2 in next week’s Region 4 championship.


Adkins was 2-for-4 at the plate including a double to go along with four RBIs and two runs scored while Natalie Green had a double, solo home run and scored three times for Scott.


Tatum Halley picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Skyhawks after allowing three runs on three hits with two walks in three innings pitched. Cambri Barker tossed two innings of relief allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout and two walks.


Chloe Murphy suffered the loss for the Lady Tigers after allowing 11 runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 3 2/3 innings. Latosha Perry allowed two runs on one hit in 1 1/3 innings.


Brooke Christian had two hits with one RBI and scored twice while Murphy had a two-run single and Ashleigh Mahon and Erica Sigmon each had one hit and one RBI for the Lady Tigers who also got a double from Baylee Belcher.


Cayden Elkins had an RBI double and scored two runs for Scott, who also got one hit each from Harley Capps, Kayleigh Ellis and Halley.


Scott improves to 20-9 with the win while Chapmanville falls to 16-10 with the defeat.


The winner of Wednesday’s winner-take-all contest will face either Nitro or Winfield in next week’s best of three Class AA Region 4 championship series.
