Lady Tigers Defeat South Charleston For First Win Over Class AAAA Opponent In School History


Class AA No. 10 Chapmanville continues to make great strides as the 2021-22 girls basketball season marches toward postseason play.

The Lady Tigers, who owns wins over Class AAA ranked Winfield, Class AA No. 6 Summers County and a pair of wins over Class AA No. 8 Mingo Central, added to its collection of signature victories with its first ever win over a Class AAAA opponent.

Daizi Farley and Jaiden Mahon each had 14 points and Haley Fleming added 10 to lead the Lady Tigers to a 46-38 victory over South Charleston Monday night at Danny Godby Gymnaisum.

The Lady Tigers built a nine-point halftime advantage and led by 11 points after three quarters of play.

South Charleston was led by Natalie Smith with 14 points while Daviya Leggett finished with nine points.

South Charleston outscored Chapmanville 25-24 in the second half, but the nine-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Lady Black Eagles fell to 7-6 with the loss and will return to action Wednesday hosting Class AAAA No. 9 Parkersburg.

Chapmanville, who has won five of its last seven games, will travel to Class AAA No. 3 Logan on Wednesday night. The Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Tigers 51-50 on Jan. 29 at Danny Godby Gymnasium.
