Lady Tigers shut out Wayne, 7-0, in Class AAA Region IV Section 2 opener

HAMLIN   Second-seeded and seventh ranked Chapmanville opened Class AAA Region IV Section 2 tournament Tuesday evening with a 7-0 win over third-seeded Wayne at Lincoln County High School.


Chloe Murphy allowed four hits, struck out 13 and walked five in seven innings in the circle for the Lady Tigers (15-6) and had two hits and two RBIs at the plate.


Evy Altizer, Megan Brown, and Brooke Christian each had two hits and one RBI for Chapmanville, who has won seven of its last eight games. Hannah Miller added a double and scored three runs and Peyton Lusk drove in a run.


The Lady Tigers scored all the runs they would need in the first inning when four runs crossed the plate. Chapmanville added three runs in the fourth.


Rylee Carico, Averi Napier, Lexi Napier and Courtney Thompson each had one hit for Wayne (11-10).


Kaliah Merritt allowed seven runs on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts in six innings in the circle for the Lady Pioneers.
