Lady Wildcats drop season opener at Cabell Midland

ONA   Nicole Harris homered to start a two-run fourth rally for Cabell Midland, and Hayla Norris delivered a go ahead two out run scoring single as the Lady Knights came from behind to win their season opener 5-3 over Logan Thursday evening at Cabell Midland High School.

 

Norris’ two-out single scored Baylee Smith with the eventual game winning run. Harris led off the fourth with a solo home run over the center field fence to tie the game at 3.

 

Ellie McCormill doubled in the sixth to drive in Smith and give the Lady Knights a 5-3 lead after six innings.

 

Audrea Watts retired Logan in order in the seventh to put the finishing touches on a complete game three-hitter. She allowed three earned runs, walked two and struck out nine.

 

Logan had plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-2 over last season’s Class AAA runner-up. Harlee Quick scored on a wild pitch to tie it at 2 and Emilee Mullins had a sacrifice fly to left field to score Kaylie Coleman giving Logan its first lead.

 

Quick had two of Logan’s three hits, she had a solo home run in the top of the second inning to get Logan on the board.

 

Cabell Midland got a pair of runs in the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. Olivia Bell started the scoring with a sacrifice fly and Harris doubled to center field with two outs to complete the Lady Knights scoring.

 

Harris doubled, homered and drove in two runs, Smith had two hits and scored twice and Rebecca Conrad had two hits to lead Cabell Midland at the plate.

 

McCormill doubled and drove in one run, Norris had one hit and one RBI and Addison Perdue had one hit and Bell drove in one run for the Lady Knights, who outhit the Lady Wildcats 9-3.

 

Myleigh Adkins gave up five runs, three earned, on nine hits and struck out six in a losing cause.

 

Quick had a double, hit a solo home run and drove in one run while Coleman had the Lady Wildcats’ other hit and Mullins had one RBI.
