Lady Wildcats Drops Fourth Straight To Start Season

LOGAN Hailea Skeens three-run home run in the first inning proved to be the difference as Sherman defeated Logan 4-1 Tuesday evening at Logan’s Bea Orr Field.

Skeens’ first inning blast over the center field fence scored Lauren Guthrie and Kenzi Rinchich. Guthrie led off the first inning drawing a walk from Logan starter Harlee Quick before moving to second on Rinchich’s single to left.

That was enough run support for Chloe Treadway, who allowed one run on eight hits in seven innings. Treadway struck out eight, walked three and hit one batter as Sherman improved to 4-0 on the season.

The Tide added a run in the fourth when Rinchich singled to center to plate Shaylee Lewis.

Logan got on the board in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single from Emilee Mullins to score Hannah Maynard.

Quick allowed four runs on 13 hits in seven innings for the Lady Wildcats. She walked four and struck out five in the loss.

Bailey Lafferty and Skeens each had three hits for Sherman. Rinchich and Zoey Steele had two hits and Summer Harvey, Lewis and Treadway each had one hit for the Tide.

Chloe Bryant, Emma Elkins and Isabella Propst each had two hits for Logan while Mullins and Quick had one hit apiece.

Logan falls to 0-4 on the season and is scheduled to travel to Scott for a doubleheader Thursday.

Sissonville 13, Logan 1: Logan opened the season with a 13-1 loss on the road at Sissonville on March 16.

The Lady Indians plated six runs in the first, three in the second and four more in the third.

Madison Legg tossed a five-inning complete game two-hitter for Sissonville. Legg struck out seven and walked just one batter.

Abigail Bailey had a grand slam and Gracelyn Hill hit a two-run home run for Sissonville, who got three hits including a pair of triples from Kyra Hamilton.

Legg had two hits and drove in two runs while Taylor Oxley had two hits and one RBI. Anna Soblit had one hit and two RBI and Autumn Bailey and Kenzie Raines each had one hit for the Lady Indians.

Lacy Curry had one hit and one RBI for Logan and Isabella Propst had the Lady Wildcats only other hit.

Chloe Bryant took the loss for Logan in the circle. Bryant gave up seven runs on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Harlee Quick tossed 2 1/3 innings allowing six unearned runs on three hits. Quick walked one and struck out two.


Nitro 8, Logan 1: Lena Elkins had a two-run home run and Cece Lackey and Aris Miller added solo home runs as Nitro defeated Logan 8-1 on March 17 at Bea Orr Field.

Nitro plated one run in the first, two in and one in third before plating three runs off home runs in the fourth inning.

Miller led off the inning with a solo home run to left to give Nitro a 5-0 lead. Two batters later Elkins cleared the center field fence for a 7-0 lead and Lackey homered in the sixth inning to put Nitro up 8-0.

Logan got its only run in the bottom of the sixth when Addison Brumfield scored on a passed ball.

Elkins allowed one run on three hits in seven innings for Nitro. She issued five walks and struck out 11 in the circle to pick up the win for Nitro.

Harlee Quick tossed three innings for Logan allowing four runs, only two earned, on four hits striking out three and walking two. Quick took the loss in the circle for Logan. Chloe Bryant relieved Quick in the fourth and allowed three runs on three hits after just six pitches. Charlie Albright tossed four innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits. Albright struck out six and walked one batter.

Six of Nitro’s nine hits were of the extra base variety. Savannah Cantley doubled and tripled for Nitro and Avery Sayre had a double. Miller finished with three hits to lead Nitro at the plate.

Emilee Mullins, Makenna Ooten and Quick had one hit each for Logan.

Herbert Hoover 8, Logan 0: Grayson Buckner tossed a two-hit shutout as Herbert Hoover defeated Logan 8-0 in five innings at Falling Rock.

Hoover, the four-time reigning Class AA champions, scored a run in the second, three in the third and four more in the fifth.

Buckner struck out six and walked one and Abby Hanson had two home runs and drove in four runs for the Lady Huskies. Kristen Wehrle had three doubles and drove in three runs while Sydney Bright had three hits and one RBI and Sydney Shamblin had one hit for Herbert Hoover.

Addison Brumfield and Harlee Quick had singles for Logan’s only two hits on the evening.

Chloe Bryant took the loss, allowing eight runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Bryant struck out one and walked one. Charlie Albright relieved Bryant and allowed one hit to the only hitter she faced.
