Lady Wildcats open Class AA Region IV Section 2 tournament by run ruling Scott

LOGAN Top ranked Logan started its quest for a first sectional championship in 10 years by run ruling seventh ranked Scott 10-2 in five innings Tuesday at Bea Orr Field in the Class AA Region IV Section 2 tournament.
Myleigh Adkins and Ashlin Brumfield each hit a home run for the Lady Wildcats (19-5). Adkins had a two-run shot in the third inning and Brumfield added a grand slam in the fourth.
Brumfield went 3-for-3 at the plate, scored three runs and drove in four and Lacy Curry had one hit and scored three times.
Adkins was dominant in the circle for Logan, holding Scott hitless for 4 1/3 innings before Kambri Beard singled to center field. Haven Tomblin followed with a two-run home run to cut the Lady Wildcats lead to 9-2.
Adkins allowed two runs on three hits, struck out 11 and walked four in five innings.
Lena Setser led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to left, moved to second on Addison Richardson's sacrifice bunt, then to third on a passed ball before crossing the plate with the game-ending run on Addison Starr's single to left field.
Alyssa Shultz had one hit, and Hailey Capps walked three times for the Lady Skyhawks.
Lauren Adkins got Logan on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run single to left field to Curry and Brumfield for a 2-0 lead.
Myleigh Adkins' two-run home run in the third made it 4-0 and Emilee Mullins singled to score Brumfield and give the Lady Wildcats a 5-0 lead.
Brumfield cleared the bags in the fourth inning with her grand slam to extend the lead to 9-0.
Beard took the loss for Scott.
