LOGAN   Given how last season ended for the Logan Lady Wildcats, coach Kevin Gertz couldn't have scripted a better start for his team in Wednesday's Class AAA Region 4 Section 2 tournament opener against Scott.

Last season, the Lady Wildcats were held to one field goal in the fourth and were 1 of 9 from the free throw line in a stunning loss to Lincoln County that eliminated Logan from postseason contention.

Fast forward to this season and Logan made sure there would be no repeat of last year, scoring the first 17 points of the contest, building a 20-point lead and soaring to a 73-46 victory over the Scott Lady Skyhawks at the Willie Akers Arena.

Addyson Amick was one of many Lady Wildcats to fill the stat sheet in multiple categories finishing with a game-high 15 points to go along with eight steals and four assists.

In all four Lady Wildcats reached double figures in the victory, Halle Crouse finished with 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kinley Steele scored 12 points, pulled down six rebounds and blocked two shots and Michel'A Swan narrowly missed a double-double finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

Logan controlled the paint and dominated the boards, outrebounding Scott, 44-24, and pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.

Three minutes into the game, Logan build a double-digit lead, 10-0, on an elbow jumper by Peyton Butcher with 5:01 to play in the opening quarter.

The lead swelled to 17-0 when Amick came up with a steal and layup with 2:41 to play.

It took Scott 5:35 to score as Rikki Beth Bailey brought the Lady Skyhawks scoring drought with a 3-pointer from the left wing.

Logan led, 17-6, after one quarter where they forced 10 Scott turnovers and held the Lady Skyhawks to 2 of 12 shooting from the floor in the first quarter.

Logan led 37-20 at halftime and held a 40-26 lead after Haven Tomblin's free throw brought the Lady Skyhawks to within 14 in the third quarter, before the Lady Wildcats closed the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 53-28 after three quarters of play.

Logan's biggest lead of the contest came in the fourth quarter when Steele scored on a driving layup to put the Lady Wildcats up 65-30 with 4:51 to play. Steele's layup was the capper on a 25-4 run spanning the third and fourth quarters and nearly seven minutes of game clock.

Kelsey Harper and Tomblin led the Lady Skyhawks with 13 points each and Bailey had 11 points.

Scott ends the season at 8-15. The Lady Skyhawks shot 16 of 52 from the field and committed 22 turnovers in the loss.

Logan had 15 steals and blocked eight shots in the win and got 19 points off the bench.

Jayden Meade was 3-of-3 on 3-pointers and finished with nine points, Payton Butcher had eight points, a team-high 13 rebounds and one block while Bam Mosby finished with five points, hauled down seven rebounds, dished out three assists, had two steals and blocked one shot.

Logan improved to 13-10 and will face top seed Wayne in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 2 championship Friday night at Wayne High School.
