Lady Wildcats upset four-time reigning Class AA champion Lady Huskies

LOGAN Taylor Noe had three hits and Addison Brumfield, Lacey Curry and Isabella Propst each had two hits as Logan upset the four-time reigning Class AA champion Herbert Hoover, 7-5, Friday evening at Bea Orr Field.


Herbert Hoover, who has won five of the last seven Class AA championships, defeated Logan, 8-0, on March 18 at Herbert Hoover.


The Lady Wildcats scored four runs in the first and three more in the second inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead but had to hold off a late seventh inning Herbert Hoover rally.


The quartet of Brumfield, Curry, Noe and Propst combined for nine of Logan’s 13 hits, scored five of the Lady Wildcats nine runs and drove in two runs while going 9-for-14 at the plate.


Noe was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs scored for the Lady Wildcats. Curry was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI while Propst went 2-for-4 with one RBI and Brumfield finished the evening 2-for-3 at the plate.


Chloe Bryant was 1-for-4 with a two-run triple while Emma Elkins and Emilee Mullins each went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Harlee Quick was 1-for-4 with a double.


In the circle, Charlie Albright tossed a complete game working around 10 hits, holding the Lady Huskies to five runs while striking out two and walking three to earn the win.


Logan plated four runs in the first inning as Curry started the scoring with a run-scoring double to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.


Bryant’s two-run triple gave Logan a 3-0 lead and Elkins’ singled closed out the first inning scoring giving Logan a 4-0 lead after one inning.


Propst’s single in the second inning gave Logan a 5-0 lead and was the first of three runs in the second.


Mullins’ two-out single gave the Lady Wildcats a 6-0 lead and Propst scored on an error by the second baseman to close out the scoring for the Lady Wildcats to make it 7-0 after two innings.


Herbert Hoover wouldn’t quit as they answered with single runs in the third and fourth inning. Sydney Shamblin hit a solo home run over the left field fence to make it 7-1 after three and Kristen Wehrle stole home to cut Logan’s lead to 7-2 after four innings.


The Lady Huskies plated three runs in the seventh inning. Sydney Bright started the scoring with a two-run double to bring Herbert Hoover to within three, 7-4. Bright would steal home to close the gap two runs, 7-5, but Albright got Brooklyn Huffman to fly out to Curry at short to complete the upset.


Bright was 3-for-4 with three double and two RBIs to lead Herbert Hoover at the plate. Sydney Shamblin went 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored and one RBI while Hannah Shamblin was 2-for-3 with a double.


Abby Hanson, Huffman and Caroline Woody each had one hit for the Lady Huskies.


Josi Fix suffered the loss in the circle for Herbert Hoover after allowing seven runs on 12 hits in five innings. Fix struck out six and walked one. Grayson Buckner struck out one and allowed one hit in one inning of relief.
