Lady Wildcats win Lyndel Potter Tournament

PIKEVILLE, KY Logan captured the 20th annual Lyndel Porter Memorial Tournament with an 11-1 six inning mercy rule victory over Elizabethton (TN) Saturday evening at Myers Field.


Logan advanced to the championship with a pair of wins over Grundy (VA), 15-0, in three innings in Saturday’s quarterfinals and defeated East Carter (KY), 10-0, in six innings in the semifinals.


The Lady Wildcats opened tournament play with a 9-8 win over Paintsville (KY) in eight innings and a 6-1 over Elizabethton Friday night in pool play action.


In five games, the Lady Wildcats outscored the opposition 50-10 in five games, pounded out 62 hits, 33 of those 62 went for extra bases and nine were home runs.


Myleigh Adkins hit three of the Lady Wildcats nine home runs, Ashlin Brumfield and Harlee Quick, who batted .706 in the tournament, each had two home runs and Taylor Noe and Isabella Propst each had one home run.


Adkins went 9-for-19 at the plate with three home runs, two doubles, five runs scored and 11 RBIs. In the circle, Adkins was just as impressive with a 4-0 record in the circle allowing five runs on 12 hits in 26 innings pitched while walking just seven and striking out 47 hitters. For her efforts, Adkins was named MVP of the tournament.


Logan, who has won its last seven games and outscored the opposition 69-12 in those seven games, is now 20-6 overall and will travel to Class A No. 9 Man on Monday afternoon before returning home Tuesday to host Class AA No. 1 Winfield.


Logan 11, Elizabethton (TN) 1 (Six Innings) – Quick went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run and four runs scored, and Noe was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and two runs to lead Logan to a six-inning win over the Lady Cyclones in the championship game of the Lyndel Porter Memorial Tournament.


Adkins allowed one run on three hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts in six innings and was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Logan.


Lauren Adkins had one hit and drove in two runs while Ashlin Brumfield, Lacy Curry and Propst each had one hit and one RBI. McKenna Ooten had two hits and Addison Brumfield one hit for the Lady Wildcats.


Logan 10, East Carter (KY) 0 (Six Innings) – Myleigh Adkins struck out 13 and allowed just two hits in a six-inning shutout of East Carter.


Adkins added a solo home run at the plate while Noe was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, four RBIs and three runs scored. Propst was 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs.


Quick went 2-for-2 with one RBI, Ashlin Brumfield had one hit and one RBI and Addison Brumfield one hit for the Lady Wildcats at the plate.


Logan 15, Grundy (VA) 0 (Three Innings) – Quick struck out six and allowed just one hit while going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs in a three-inning mercy rule win over the Golden Wave.


Ashlin Brumfield blasted two home runs and drove in three runs and Myleigh Adkins went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and crossed the plate three times for the Lady Wildcats.


Noe went 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI, Propst had one hit and two RBIs while Kaylee Coleman and Emilee Mullins each had one hit and one RBI. Ooten had two hits, Addison Brumfield had one hit and Destiny McNeely one RBI.


Logan 6, Elizabethton (TN) 1 – Adkins struck out 12 and allowed just two hits in Logan’s 6-1 win Friday evening over the Elizabethton (TN) Cyclones.


Quick had two doubles and drove in two runs while Noe had two hits including a double and one RBI and Curry added two hits for Logan.


Adkins and Ashlin Brumfield each had one hit and one RBI and Addison Brumfield, Mullins and Propst each had one hit for the Lady Wildcats.


Logan 9, Paintsville (KY) 8 (Eight Innings) – Logan started tournament play with a 9-8 eight inning victory over Paintsville Friday evening.


The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to erase a 7-1 deficit and force extra innings.


Paintsville scored a run in the top of the eighth, but Lauren Adkins tied the game with a single and scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Lady Wildcats a come from behind victory.


Myleigh Adkins had a double, a home run and drove in four runs while Noe had two hits including a double and scored three runs and Curry had one hit and two RBIs for Logan.

Myleigh Adkins got the win in the circle for Logan after allowing three runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings. Adkins started in the circle for Logan and pitched the first four innings before Shae Conely took over in the fifth inning.


Conley allowed four runs on two hits, walked two and struck out two in her only inning of work before leaving the game after being hit by a line drive. Adkins reentered the circle and threw the final three innings for the Lady Wildcats.
