Logan County man accused in sexual assault of young girl

 Daniel Lee Scaggs, 44, of Ethel, is facing a first-degree sexual assault charge following a West Virginia State Police investigation. According to a criminal complaint, a 12-year-old girl reported alleged abuse that occurred between the ages of 8 and 11.  A preliminary hearing is set for March 9 at 10 a.m.

LOGAN A Logan County man is accused of sexual assault that has allegedly been ongoing for years.


On Thursday, West Virginia State Troop J-P Ziegler  arrested 44-year-old Daniel Lee Scaggs, of Ethel, on one count of Sexual Assault in the First Degree.


The Investigation reached state police as a referral from Child Protective Services. An interview  through the Logan County Child Advocacy Center ultimately yielded an arrest warrant.


According to a criminal complaint filed in the Logan County Magistrate Office, the alleged victim is a 12-year-old girl that told her therapist of the alleged abuse. The complaint states that the victim alleged Scaggs touched her inappropriately. Moreover, the abused is alleged to have gone on between the victim’s ages of 8 and 11-years-old.


Scaggs is also charged with two misdemeanors in connection with his arrest including one charge each for fleeing and obstructing.


Bond has been set at $100,000 for the sexual assault charge and $5,000 dollars on the misdemeanors.


A preliminary hearing is set for Monday, March 9th at 10:00 a.m.
