Logan County Softball Roundup: Logan rallies to defeat Independence, Lady Hillbillies fall at Westside

LOGAN   Down one late and running out of time, Logan plated three runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Class AAA No. 4 Independence 6-5 Monday evening at Bea Orr Field.


The Class AA top-ranked Lady Wildcats (10-3) trailed 4-3 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth before Melody Rozzell scored the game tying run on a wild pitch. Myleigh Adkins followed with a go-ahead single to give Logan a 5-4 lead and Lena Setser singled to plate an all-important insurance run to put Logan on top 6-4 heading to the top of the seventh.


The Lady Patriots (12-4) pulled to within one run when Bella Lilly singled with two outs to close the margin to 6-5, but Adkins got Paytin Brehm to strike out looking for the final out.


Adkins (8-0) allowed five runs and seven hits in seven innings with 12 strikeouts and six walks as Logan avoided consecutive losses for the first time this season.


Kenzie Pierce gave up six runs on eight hits, walking six and striking out five in six innings for the Lady Patriots.


Ava Parks went 2-for-4 with four RBI and Lilly was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Kassidy Bradbury was 1-for-1 with three runs scored, and Brehm, Acasia Cook and Emma Simpson each had one hit for Independence.


Ashlin Brumfield hit a two-run home run, her fifth home run of the season, and drove in three while Setser was 2-for-2 with two RBI. Adkins had one hit and one RBI, Lauren Adkins, Lacy Curry and Addison Starr each had a double and Emilee Mullins had one hit for Logan.


Logan is back in action Tuesday evening at county rival and Class AAA No. 7 Chapmanville.


Westside 15, Man 3 (5 innings)


Myles Meadows had three hits including two doubles, scored three times and drove in six runs to lead Westside to a five-inning mercy rule victory over Man Monday evening at Westside.


Man (0-4) plated two runs in the second inning and led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third, but the Lady Renegades scored six runs in the third and nine more in fourth.


Paisley Shannon picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Renegades (5-3) after allowing three unearned runs on three hits in four innings with eight strikeouts. Shay Bailey tossed a scoreless inning of relief allowing two hits with one strikeout.


Taylor Lester allowed 15 runs on seven hits, walked six and struck out five in four innings in the circle for the Lady Hillbillies.


Karsyn Paynter had two hits and one RBI while Laken Cline was hit by pitch three times, walked, scored three times and drove in one run for Westside. Bella Massie scored twice and drove in a run, Kinley Morgan had one hit and two runs and Shannon had one hit for the Lady Renegades.


Zoey Jackson had two hits including a double and one run, Kylie Blevins had one hit and one RBI and Kylie Toler had one hit for Man.


The Lady Hillbillies will host Class A co-No. 7 Tug Valley Tuesday afternoon.
