In high school basketball action, number two Logan Wildcats defeated the North Marion Huskies Friday night 58-40. Logan moved to 2-0 on the season as they used a 37-14 second half to run away from the North Marion Huskies in in the first night of the King Coal Classic from Willie Akers Arena.
North Marion was able to use tough defense and physicality to force Logan into a grind-it-out first half that the Huskies took control of to lead 26-21 at the half.
The Wildcats came roaring out of the locker room in the third quarter and turned up the heat on both ends of the floor. Logan held North Marion to four third-quarter points and 21 turnovers for the game. Logan only committed two turnovers in the entire second half.
The Huskies shot 25% from the field for the game while Logan shot over 50% in the second half, and was aided by junior Garrett Williamson's game-high 16 points in the contest to pull away for the victory.
Logan also received 15 points from senior Jackson Tackett, and junior Scottie Browning added 12 points in the win.
The Wildcats will get back into action Saturday evening at 5 o’clock hosting the number one defending state champions Shady Spring in the King Coal Classic. Logan and Shady Spring will be followed at 7 p.m. with the defending Class A state champions Man Hillbillies taking on the Buffalo Bison.
