In high school basketball action, the Logan Wildcats won their 13th straight over the Scott Skyhawks and moved to 10-4 on the season, as they edged the Skyhawks 72-69 in overtime last night from Willie Akers Arena on a Scotty Browning three-pointer at the buzzer.
Scott took a 15-12 first-quarter lead before Logan was able to use a late 2nd quarter surge to end the first half with a tentative 26-24 advantage. In the third quarter, the Skyhawks Reece Carden caught fire as he knocked down three three-pointers to add to his game-high 22 points on the evening and give Scott the lead heading into the final quarter.
The Skyhawks were able to increase their lead to five in the final minutes, but despite having a good night from the free-throw line missed three crucial free throws down the stretch that would have iced the game away, giving the Wildcats an opportunity to tie with 14 seconds left, and sophomore Aiden Slack buried a corner three to send the game into overtime tied at 65.
In the extra period with the score tied at 69, Logan held for the final shot when they found Browning open in the corner, and the sophomore drained his fifth triple of the game at the buzzer to give Logan a 72-69 win. Browning led the Wildcats in scoring with 21 points on the evening. Logan will get back into action tonight as they host the Mingo Central Miners. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
