Logan edges out Hoover with closing buzzer basket Sat. night, 75-73

In high school basketball action, Scotty Browning hit his second game-winning shot of the week to defeat Herbert Hoover 75-73 in a battle of top seven teams in class AAA Saturday night from Willie Akers Arena. The Logan Wildcats moved to 12-4 on the season and won their tenth game of the last eleven.

Logan trailed 24-12 early in the contest and trailed most of the evening, but the Wildcats were able to hit a shot at the buzzer of each period, starting with Jarron Glick canning a two pointer to draw Logan within six at the end of one.

The Wildcats continued to battle back in the second quarter, as a long-range exhibition was being put in by both clubs. It was Garrett Williamson who closed the half with a bank in three to give Logan a 43-42 halftime edge. Both teams poured in nine three-pointers each in the first 16 minutes.

In the third quarter, it was Glick who once again hit a jumper to close out the period to give the Wildcats a slight 54-53 edge heading into the final frame.

The Huskies were able to extend their lead to six on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter on the strength of Devin Hatfield's team-high 25 points, but Logan refused to go away and tied the game at 72-72 in the final seconds...following a Herbert Hoover free throw with 10 seconds left to take a 73-72 lead the Wildcats found themselves in desperation mode. That's when Glick was able to find Browning at the top of the key for a walk-off three-pointer to upend the Huskies and give them their third loss of the season.

Logan finished with fourteen made three-pointers on the evening and Hoover with twelve, while both teams shot over 50% from the field for the game.

Glick led the way in scoring, as he amassed 31 points, while Browning closed with fourteen points in the win.

Logan will now wait to see if they will play next week or not with teams taking precautions and canceling games due to COVID issues. Wildcats may take the hardwood again come sectional play a week from now.
