Logan Elementary School will not reopen following fire

LOGAN Logan County Schools says Logan Elementary School will not reopen following the fire last February and extensive damage to the building that resulted.
The announcement followed a nearly 90-minute executive session Tuesday evening during the Logan County Board of Education meeting.
District officials say the decision was made after reviewing the condition of the school and the significant cost of making the necessary repairs.
Logan Elementary students will remain permanently housed at Logan Middle School, according to the school district.
The district says it will seek funding from the West Virginia School Building Authority to renovate Logan Middle School and modify the facility to better serve both elementary and middle school students.
The decision marks the end of Logan Elementary School as a school facility, but district officials say the school's students, staff, families and traditions will continue.
The announcement comes as community members and parents continue to raise concerns about how the fire and its aftermath have been handled.
Three other elementary schools have been proposed for permanent closure since the fire. Matter of fact, Tuesday’s meeting was the first meeting since the announcement last month of the district’s intention to close Hugh Dingess, Justice and South Man.
