LOGAN A fire at Logan Elementary School late Saturday morning is resulting in the
school’s temporary relocation to Logan Middle School.
According to a press release from Logan County Schools, the fire was reported at
approximately 10:17 a.m. Local emergency responders arrived quickly on scene to
contain and extinguish the fire. There were no students or staff inside the building at the
time of the fire, and no injuries reported.
Captain Chris Hatfield of the City of Logan Fire Department said the fire was contained to one room, with “heat extension” into two smaller offices. Moreover, Hatfield said the State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate, which is standard protocol when a fire involves a
school or similar facility.

The cause of the fire has not officially been determined, not until the Fire Marshall issues a final report, but Communications Coordinator for Logan County Schools, Troy Alexander told WVOW News the cause is believed to be electrical.
In the meantime, school officials are developing a plan to transition students from Logan Elementary School to available classrooms at Logan Middle School.
Students will remain on the island to minimize any disruption to schedules, the press release from Logan County Schools stated.
Alexander said students will operate on Non-Traditional Instruction, or NTI days for the upcoming week while preparations are underway at the middle school.
"What they’re going to do is have the kids Non-Traditional Learning for Logan Elementary and Logan Middle next week,” Alexander said. “They’re hoping to have the school ready by Friday. They’ll have an open house for parents of the Logan Elementary School kids on Friday.”
Teachers at Logan Elementary will be contacted by Principal Hillary Nelson regarding
access to their classrooms to retrieve personal belongings and instructional materials.
Security personnel will remain on site around the clock to ensure the building is
secured.
Additional information, including updates on scheduling, will be shared as it becomes
available.
