A long-time lawyer in the Logan area died recently.
John Carney Valentine of The Villages in Florida, formerly of Logan, passed away October 13.
Born on Nighbert Avenue at Midelburg in Logan, Valentine was a Logan High graduate with the Class of 1946.
Carney, as he was commonly called, received his a bachelors in Political Science from WVU and obtained his law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law in 1956
Valentine practice in Logan for over forty years.
Logan Circuit Court Chief Judge Eric O’Briant worked with Carney at Valentine, Wilson and Partain just after law school.
“He worked primarily on the business or commercial end of the practice,” O’Briant said. “He was an easy fella to work for. He was very detail oriented and meticulous.”
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Valentine at St. Francis of Assisi in Logan Friday, October 22.
He was 93 years old and just celebrated his birthday four days before his death.
