LOGAN The Logan Lions Club distributed 500 free American flags in less than 75 minutes during its annual Flag Day giveaway in front of the Logan County Courthouse on Friday.

According to the organization, the tradition began at the urging of the late Lion Ken Nunley, a military veteran.
"After Lion Ken’s death, we have continued this tradition because we believe it is an important way to show patriotism, not partisanship,” the club said in a Facebook post.
In addition to the flag giveaway, the club sold tickets for the organization's 23rd Annual Duck Race fundraiser.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, at 10 a.m.

Ducks will be released from the Water Street Bridge into the Guyandotte River and race toward the finish line. The holder of the winning duck number will receive a $1,000 grand prize.
Duck race tickets are available for $5 each. A total of 1,200 entries will be sold, with each ticket corresponding to a numbered duck entered in the race.
Proceeds from the fundraiser support Logan Lions Club charitable programs, with a primary focus on providing glasses and vision assistance to individuals in need.
Tickets can be purchased online through the Logan Lions Club Facebook page, through the club's PayPal account, or by contacting a member of the organization.

The Logan Lions Club participates in a variety of community service projects throughout the year, including charitable initiatives and community litter cleanup efforts.
The club meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at First Presbyterian Church in Logan and welcomes community members interested in learning more about its service activities.
