LOGAN The Logan Main Post Office is temporarily moving its operations.
According to a notice posted at the Logan office, Logan customers can retrieve their mail and parcels at the Stollings Post Office starting Thursday. That office is located at 768 Hanging Rock Highway in Stollings.
Employees at the City of Logan Post Office have been dealing with ongoing flooding and drainage problems since the heavy rains that hit the region in February.
Employees of the United States Postal Service are not allowed to speak with members of the media, however, WVOW did speak with City of Logan Mayor Serafino Nolletti. He said Wednesday that he was finding out about the closure at the same time as everybody else, but he did say the city has been aware of the flooding issue. According to the mayor, drainage and flooding have long been problems for the city’s older buildings. He said the city is taking what steps it can.
“That basement was built as a bomb shelter and all those basements get water,” he said. “We filed a claim with our insurance people on the post office’s behalf.”

He said there is a plan in the works to fortify the building against further flooding. However, with CSX train tracks running right beside that section of the city’s water line, Logan has to receive approval from the train company before any digging can take place. Mayor Nolletti said the city has worked with CSX before and said the city’s utility manager has already reached out to the company about the Logan Post Office.
“When we do, you know, sewer projects, sometimes it can be a long, long process, but hopefully we’ll get around this long process,” he said. “Herb Staten, our utility board manager, has been in contact several times with CSX on this issue.”
While the closure of the Logan Post Office is temporary, no definite time frame has been established for getting the office open again. Again, while the Logan office is closed, customers will be able to get their mail and parcels, as well as passport services, at the Post Office in Stollings.
