LOGAN Five Logan pitchers combined on a three hitter as the Class AA No. 2 Wildcats opened Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament play with an 11-1 five inning victory over Wayne Tuesday evening at Roger E. Gertz Field.
Each individual threw one inning with Jared Burnette picking up the win after starting on the hill for the Wildcats. Burnette walked one and struck out one in his inning of work. Joey Canterbury struck out one while Chad Burnette allowed a hit.
Garrett Williamson allowed one run on two hits and Aiden Slack struck one as none of the five threw over 20 pitches for the Wildcats, who won their eighth straight contest and improved to 20-6 with the victory.
The top-seeded Wildcats advance to meet third-seeded Scott in a winner’s bracket game Thursday evening at Roger E. Gertz Field. The Skyhawks beat second-seeded Chapmanville, 9-6, in nine innings on Tuesday.
Logan jumped on top of Wayne with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, with RBIs from Dawson Maynard, Konner Lowe and Ryan Roberts.
Logan added to its lead with five runs in the second inning on a two-run double from Jake Ramey, a run-scoring double from Maynard, a wild pitch scoring Maynard from third and a Roberts RBI groundout to increase its lead to 8-0 after two innings.
In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats got a two-run triple from Bostic and a run-scoring single from Williamson for an 11-0 lead after three complete.
Wayne scored its only run in the top of fourth on a Levi Queen sacrifice fly.
Parker Adkins, Levi Cassidy and Brayden Jackson each had one hit for Wayne while Queen drove in a run.
Eli Steele took the loss for the Pioneers, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk in one inning. The Pioneers fall to 12-14 with the loss and will meet either second-seed Chapmanville or fifth-seed Mingo Central in an elimination game Thursday.
Lowe, Ramey and Williamson each had two hits while Bostic, Carson Kirk, Maynard and Roberts had one hit for Logan.
Bostic, Maynard, Ramey and Roberts each drove in two runs with Lowe and Williamson driving in one run for the Wildcats. Slack scored three runs and was hit three times in the win.
