BARBOURSVILLE Logan Little League advanced to the championship round of the West Virginia Major League Softball Tournament with a pair of wins over the weekend in Barboursville.
Logan didn’t allow a run in two games defeating Boone Northern 7-0 on Saturday afternoon and Grant County 9-0 on Sunday afternoon to capture the Herd Bracket and advance to Monday’s state championship bracket.
Logan will face the Mountaineer runner-up Moorefield in a single elimination format. A win over Moorefield will advance Logan to Tuesday’s state championship game at noon against either Mountaineer champion Hite Saunders or Herd runner-up Boone Northern.
Logan 9, Grant County 0: Emma Lackey had two hits including a double and drove in three runs and Ayla Vance had one hit and two RBIs as Logan defeated Grant County in the Herd bracket championship on Saturday afternoon.
Mollie Barnette dominated hitters in the circle, striking out 14 and allowing only one hit in six innings for the win. Barnette retired the first 12 hitters before allowing a leadoff single to Gracie Brill to start the fifth inning.
Rylee Miller had one hit and one RBI and Lilly Fleming had one RBI and two runs for Logan. Barnette and Lena Setser each had a single and Milley Fleming crossed the plate twice.
Abi Nettles took the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits while striking out five and walking seven in 3 2/3 innings. Taylan Vanmeter allowed one run, struck out one, walked one and didn’t allow a hit in 1 1/3 innings for Grant County.
Logan 7, Boone Northern 0: Zoe Chaney and Emma Lackey combined on a two-hit shutout and Lackey added two hits including a double and drove in two runs in Logan’s win over Boone Northern Friday afternoon.
Chaney allowed two hits in five innings and struck out eight. Lackey pitched a perfect inning striking out three.
Milley Fleming had a double and one RBI while Addie Dotson, Lilly Fleming and Miller each had one hit and one RBI for Logan.
Vance had a double and Chaney, Kristi Dress, Katie Hall and Setser each had a single for Logan.
Addie Toney took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in two innings. Molly Tagliente allowed two runs on four hits and struck out one in three innings.
Ashton Lowe and Ellie Jeffrey each had one hit for Boone Northern.
