Jay Nunley, broadcaster & pastor, passed away at 52

COW CREEK A long time radio broadcaster died Thursday.


Jay Nunley began his radio career at WVOW while still in high school.

A thirty year career in radio, Jay’s trekked all over the country running every conceivable part of radio imaginable.


Local listeners remember his time at Rock 105 WKLC with Big Poppa Jay and the Big Fat Afternoon Show. Others remember him for his time at WVOW Radio where he returned in 2010. Nunley took over the reigns as news director following the retirement of Bob Weisner. Nunley won Best Coverage of Breaking News from the West Virginia Broadcasters Association in 2015 for his reporting of the Mountain Laurel Kick Back Scheme.


Jay retired from radio as WVOW’s station manager last September and was Pastor of the Gilbert Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church in Logan.

He was 52.
