Man Accused Of Officer Shooting Waves Preliminary Trial

A man accused of the murder of a West Virginia State Trooper in Mingo County waived his right to a preliminary hearing last Friday.

29-year-old Timothy Kennedy, of Beech Creek, is charged with first-degree murder in relation to the death of WV State Police Sergeant Cory Maynard.

Troopers were called to the Beech Creek area for a shooting about two weeks ago. Police reported an ambush-style attack when they arrived. The 37-year-old Maynard was fatally shot.

Another shooting victim, the civilian who prompted the original call, was take to a hospital where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

Additional charges are expected from the original shooting in addition to the shooting death of Sergeant Maynard.

An hours-long manhunt for Kennedy ensued after the shooting of the officer.

Since Kennedy waived his right to a preliminary trial, the next step will be for the case to move to the Mingo County Grand Jury.
