MAN Town of Man is looking into updating ordinances, including municipal fees, which officials say are decades out of date.
During a Town Council meeting on Monday, Man Mayor John Fekete said those changes are coming, but it’s going to take time.
“The next meeting, I’m working on updating one of our ordinances regarding municipal fees,” Fekete said. “It’s getting your arms wrapped around those and understanding what they did 45 years ago has changed to what we should be doing today.”
Fekete said he plans to prepare information to bring to the council. The Mayor said the information would pertain to municipal fees but didn’t’ elaborate on specifics.
“We want to allow the public to give us their comments, come to the meetings and help us get this to where it’s supposed to be.”
In January, the town approved a project with American Legal Publishing to digitize its meeting minutes and town ordinances. Fekete has been among the town officials sorting through around 75 years’ worth of documents to get them scanned and uploaded in a searchable format on the town’s website. Following Monday’s meeting, he told WVOW News that that project has played a key role in discovering those outdated policies.
“As I read all of the old ordinances and read all of the old minutes – find out why they did certain things or why the council made certain decisions back 30, 40, 50 years ago – you start looking into those and, when you read those ordinances, they’re out of date. They need to be updated. They need to be more with the times,” said Fekete. “So, I’m just saying I would like for the council and this body to evaluate those and come up with what we should be doing and how it should operate. We really don’t have any ideas of what direction it’s going to go, but it’s been so long – it’s time to reevaluate that.”
The next meeting of the Man Town Council is Monday, August 11, at Town Hall.
