Mann places second, Chapmanville finishes six shots behind winner GW in four-team match

SISSONVILLE   The Chapmanville High School golf team finished second in a four-team match Thursday at the Edgewood Country Club.

 

Justus Mann paced the Tigers with a 1-over-par 35 as Chapmanville combined for score of 156, six shots off the pace of George Washington, who paced the field with a team score of 150. Charleston Catholic finished with a 159 and Capital was fourth after shooting a 170.

 

Mann finished second individually, two shots behind Charleston Catholic’s Will Gruse, who fired a 1-under-par 33 to claim medalist honors.

 

George Washington’s William Johnson and Charleston Catholic’s Ben Carew tied for third place with a 2-over-par 36 and George Washington’s Eli Amburgey shot a 3-over-par 37 to round out the top five.

 

George Washington had five players place in the top nine and all six golfers placed in the top 11 of the 24-player field.

 

Jay Payne of George Washington was sixth with 4-over-par 38 while Chapmanville’s Gavin Stollings and George Washington’s Chastyn Viars both shot a 5-over-par 39 to tie for seventh.

 

Rounding out the top 10 were George Washington’s Maddox Fox and Chapmanville’s Cameron Wooten. Each shot a 6-over-par 40 to tie for ninth place.

 

Finishing in a 13th place tie for Chapmanville was Cooper Evans with an 8-over-par 42, Isaac Walters tied for 16th after carding a 10-over-par 44 and Zeke Tiller shot a 14-over-par 48 to tie for 21st place.

 

 Chapmanville will tee it up Monday evening in a four-team match at the Logan Country Club with Capital, Logan and Sherman.
