Middle quarters spell doom for Hillbillies in road loss at Phelps

PHELPS, KY   Phelps outscored Man by 22 points in the middle two quarters to defeat the Hillbillies 72-60 Wednesday night at Phelps High School.

 

Tyler Weddington led Phelps with 19 points and Nick Knox added 10 points off the bench. Reece Norman finished with nine points, Gabe Adkins had eight points and Dylan Fields scored seven.

 

Man led Phelps 17-15 after one quarter of play. The game was tied at 21 in the second quarter before the Hornets outscored the Hillbillies 19-6 to take a 40-27 halftime lead.

 

The Hornets stretched their lead to as many as 27 points in the third quarter before settling for a 20-point lead after three quarters.

 

With the reserves in the game and Man down by 24, the Hillbillies scored the final 12 points of the contest led by Justin Mullins eight points off the bench for Man.

 

Two players reached double figures for Man led by Trey Ward with 12 points and Jake Endicott’s 11 points. Devon Sanders just missed double figures finishing with nine points, Mullins had eight, Noah Frazier finished with seven, Landon Cantrell had five, Micah Goble and Blake Hicks each had three and Conner White had two points for the Hillbillies.

 

Ethan Fields scored six points, Gavin Hamilton and Brandon Howard each had four and John Socorin and Ethan Wolford two points each for Phelps.

 

Phelps improves to 10-7 while Man falls to 4-8.
