Miller, Conn combine to strike out 13; Logan pulls away from Scott, 7-3

MADISON Ivan Miller and Cross Conn combined to toss a four-hitter, striking out 13 and the Logan Wildcats broke open an one-run game with a four-run seventh inning to defeat Scott 7-3 Tuesday night at Skyhawk Field.
Class AA No. 4 Logan (8-1) won for the seventh straight time, remaining unbeaten in Class AA Region IV competition and handed fifth-ranked Scott (10-4) a second loss in the region.
Miller (4-0) started on the hill for Logan and tossed four innings allowing three unearned runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Conn tossed three shutout innings to earn the save and allowed one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Scott led Logan 3-1 after two innings, but the Wildcats plated three runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead and added four more in the seventh to pull away from the Skyhawks.
Hunter Woodrum took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits and two strikeouts in three innings for Scott.
Blayne Kuhn had a double and drove in one run while Ian Prince had one RBI for Scott at the plate. Woodrum doubled and Nate Easterling and Ryan Neal each had a single for the Skyhawks.
Tanner Akers had two hits and three RBI, Miller had a double, scored twice and drove in one run and Bentley Williamson had a double and one RBI for Logan. McCormick Ilderton had one hit and scored two runs and Jaxon McClung had one hit for the Wildcats.
Logan starting catcher Talan Thompson went 0 for 3 and saw his eight-game hitting streak come to an end, but Thompson walked once and has reached base safely in all nine Logan games this season.
Scott is back in action Wednesday afternoon hosting Roane County in a doubleheader while Logan will host Class AA No. 7 Wyoming East Wednesday evening.
