CHARLESTON West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has declared a state of emergency in Boone and Lincoln counties following heavy flooding and serious damage Wednesday.
The declaration was made late Wednesday night and allows the state to make resources available to communities and first responders without going through the normal red tape.
Flash flooding caused significant damage in the Morrisvale area of Boone County.
Morrisey is urging residents in affected areas to remain alert, avoid flooded roadways and follow instructions from local emergency officials. He is also urging people not to drive through high water and to continue monitoring the forecast.
The state of emergency will remain in effect for 30 days unless it is terminated or extended.
This is the second time over the course of the summer months that a State of Emergency has been declared for flooding in Boone County.
