DANVILLE The Boone County Sheriff’s Office says the 11-year-old girl was reported missing from the Lick Creek area of Danville. She had last been seen near the Little Coal River.

According to deputies, she was located roughly an hour and a half later nearly 4 miles downstream with no reported injuries.

In a post on social media, the sheriff’s office said it was amazed by the immediate response from the county’s emergency management agency, police, fire, EMS and other agencies from across southern West Virginia. Within half an hour of the initial report, responders had organized a search involving families driving, walking and kayaking down the river to try and locate the child.
